Gallup apologizes to Florida firm, withdraws trademark lawsuit

Polling and management consulting firm The Gallup Organization apologized Wednesday to a Florida company it had sued for alleged trademark infringement and unfair competition.

In a news release, Gallup officials said it was withdrawing the lawsuit because Proudfoot Consulting had purchased survey results from a European company that used the Gallup name, and Proudfoot was not aware of the restrictions on use of that name in the United States.

Gallup also said it was granting Proudfoot a royalty free license to use the Gallup name for the survey.
